Week 1 of Lifestyle Project
The Lifestyle projects that I decided to do were the no garbage, no meat and no car. I tried to pick things that would actually affect me, and these seemed to be pretty difficult. I set up my week as follows: tuesday- no garbage, wednesday- no meat and no car, thursday- no garbage and no car, and friday- no meat. I eat meat all the time such as turkey, ham, chicken but it was easier to watch myself and control eating the meat. Instead of meat I substituted it with other forms of protein such as protein bars, whole grains, nuts, those sort of things. I decided that I should have my no meat and no garbage on different days because most of the foods I could eat in place of meat would be wrapped. I figured this way I could balance my goals without burning myself out. Although these goals were difficult in their own ways, I found that not producing garbage was very difficult. The things I found myself doing was using napkins for everything and leaving on my plate a mound of crumpled napkins. I also found myself using excessive amounts of paper towels to dry my hands after washing them. Then there was the little things such as eating starburst and other individually wrapped candies. Monitoring what I used and produced as garbage was extremely difficult but it did get eaiser as I became more aware. Overall I did pretty well. For the entire week period I only used one napkin and two paper towels. I have become way more aware and a lot better at not using these things. I have even influenced a couple people to lower their addiction towards napking use. I found myself struglling with these goals, but all the while it was fun for me. I enjoyed having to watch what I do in order to make somewhat of a difference in our world.
